About Atsumu Miya

Atsumu Miya is a second year at Inarizaki High School and the volleyball team's starting setter. He holds the title "Japan's Number One High School Setter." He is also considered one of the most technically skilled players in the series.

About Atsumu Miya: Background

At first, Atsumu comes off as laid-back, carefree, and confident. He enjoys provoking others, especially his opponents and rivals. However, he is also a determined perfectionist, holding himself and his teammates to ridiculously high standards. His judgment can be condescending and harsh, going as far as to call Osamu trash for falling behind in practice one day. He is also very competitive, occasionally childish, and selfish.

Atsumu began playing volleyball with his twin brother, Osamu, in elementary school. At first, Atsumu slightly lagged behind Osamu, with Osamu earning the position of setter before him. Atsumu then pushed himself to practice until he surpassed Osamu's skills. Using Osamu as a rival and pace car, Atsumu raised his skills to the national level, earning an invitation to the All-Japan Youth Intensive Training Camp.

About Atsumu Miya: Abilities

Atsumu is one of the highest-ranked players in the series. He holds the titles "best high school setter" and "best high school server" from the Youth Intensive Training Camp. His setting technique is impressive, both in his ability to adapt to his spikers and perform a set up in difficult positions. Atsumu is so talented at setting, he could mimic Kageyama's toss for the minus tempo quick on sight.

What makes Atsumu particularly dangerous as an opponent is his serve arsenal. He can deliver both a powerful jump serve and a controlled jump floater serve at will. His ability to switch between the two catches the opposing team off guard and scrambles their defenses. However, Atsumu is incredibly sensitive to noise when serving. He requires complete silence and isn't above yelling at fans for cheering during his run up.

Osamu Miya

Osamu Miya is a second year at Inarizaki High School, an outside hitter, and Atsumu's twin brother. Outwardly, he appears much calmer and deadpan than Atsumu. However, when with Atsumu, Osamu becomes competitive, mischievous, and sometimes violent.

As twins, Osamu and Atsumu spend a lot of time together. As a result, Atsumu tends to hold Osamu to the same high standards that he strives for himself. When Atsumu received an invitation to the All-Japan Youth Training Camp, he taunted Osamu as his rival. However, Osamu only congratulated his brother, angering Atsumu. Osamu then replied how while he believes they are equal in skill, Atsumu loves volleyball just a bit more.

Inarizaki High School

Inarizaki High School is a secondary school in Haikyu!! located in Hyogo Prefecture. The volleyball team regularly competes at the national level, making them a powerhouse school. They earned their reputation as "the strongest challengers'' due to their strength and unconventional play style. The school motto, "We don't need things like memories," represents their desire to move forward without restraint from the past.
