OtapediaKaworu Nagisa Neon Genesis Evangelion - Figures

The Neon Genesis Evangelion series first began as an original anime series directed by Hideaki Anno and produced by Gainax. Its original run began in late 1995 and stretched into the following year. Although it has some unusual storytelling and an incredibly existential plot, many people regard Evangelion as a classic anime series. Due to its wide influence and popularity, a variety of different kinds of merchandise inspired by its characters was created. One character that received an impressive amount of attention is Kaworu Nagisa, who is generally seen as a fan-favorite despite his rather short role in the original series. Even though the series is over two decades old, there are over half of a dozen figures of Kaworu alone. Within this assortment, some of the most popular Kaworu figures include the “Ichibansho Figure Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa (Eva-01 Test Type Awakening)”, the “Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa: Plugsuit Ver. 1/6 Scale Figure: Re”, and the “Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa: School Uniform Ver. Premium Figure.

Ichibansho Figure Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa Figure (Eva-01 Test Type Awakening)

This figure of the mysterious Kaworu features him posed standing in the Eva-13 plugsuit as he has an arm raised to his chest while the other rests at his side. The suit covers everything but his head and is themed after the Eva-13, which also takes heavy inspiration from Shinji’s original Eva-01 and Mark.06’s own plugsuit. It uses a dark purple color scheme that is accented with light green on the shoulders and red around the hands, neck, and chest. Off-white patches can also be seen around the torso and somewhat resembles a rib cage. His eyes have a calm and understanding look to them which, when paired with his faint smile, may show this figure attempting to ease Shinji’s anxiety and fear.

Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa: Plugsuit Ver. 1/6 Scale Figure: Re

This 1/6 scale figure from Kotobukiya packs many details of Kaworu’s design in order to recreate the character as accurately as possible. Some of these details include Kaworu’s rather slender figure, the skin-tight Mark.06 plugsuit, and its various colors and textures, and his unusual red eyes and silver hair. The plugsuit is nearly identical to the Eva-13 suit mentioned earlier, minus the green accent and minor color changes. A comforting smile and calm expression can also be seen on this figure. Kaworu’s hair is also made with translucent plastic to complete Kaworu’s design. The base that this figure sits on is also shaped like a miniature stone bust of Eva Mark.06, which adds even more flair to the item.

About Kaworu Nagisa

Kaworu Nagisa is a character that appears late into the original Evangelion series, yet plays an incredibly important role within it. He is designated as the Fifth Child and was designated to take Asuka’s place as an Eva pilot after she was rendered unable to continue piloting herself. Like Rei Ayanami, he has an unusually pale complexion, red eyes, and silver hair. Although he is rather enigmatic, he seems to have a collected and kind personality, especially around Shinji. Kaworu also mentions that he finds humans quite interesting. Part of his mysterious nature is understood near the climax of the original series, where he reveals that he is the 17th Angel, Tabris. Despite being the enemy of humanity, he is quick to put his own life in Shinji’s hands, much to Shinji’s despair.

Other Important Evangelion Characters

Although Kaworu’s time in the original series was short, it had a profound effect on many characters, but the character affected the most would be the protagonist, Shinji Ikari. Their time together was short, but in that time, they become quite close. Shinji can be incredibly open about himself to Kaworu - an impressive feat, considering how closed off Shinji is with most people. This relationship would quickly turn into despair for Shinji, however, as Shinji is tasked with killing Kaworu after he reveals that he is an Angel. Though they are not related, Kaworu also shares some resemblance to Rei Ayanami. This is because the two share a similar origin, this origin being that they are both human incarnations of Adam and Lilith respectively.
